The Punch Brothers Concert Preview

by Carey Cameron
Grammy-award winning, genre-bending, folk band Punch Brothers is performing for a rolicking two nights at Washington D.C. 's Lincoln Theater on Saturday Feb. 26 and Sunday Feb. 27 at 8 p.m., celebrating their recent release of their newest album, Hell on Church Street. The Brooklyn-based band is known for their effortless combination of traditional bluegrass, folk, and classical music, however, Hell on Church Street elevates their sound to another level . The album pays homage to the late Tim Rice’s Church Street Blues, an album which all band members (including Rice’s mentee Chris Eldridge) cite as vital inspiration for their current work.

Sylvan Esso at The Anthem review

by Gem Miller

Sylvan Esso vocalist Amelia Meath and her husband/DJ Nick Sanborn gave their needy audience everything they asked for at The Anthem on Thursday November 11. “I think it was a really good reminder of how thoroughly people love their favorite musicians and how hungry they are to share that love with them and also with other people,” observed my companion and Sylvan Esso-cultural-outsider Justin Gross.

WMUC presents... Refuge.

by the WMUC Community

Welcome back everyone, for the second year of our wonderful, phenomenal, show-stopping zine!

We are so stoked to be on our fifth (!) edition of our zine, and wouldn't have been able to keep it up without the amazing contributions of the creatives in the WMUC Community.

We hope you find a piece of yourself in this publication. I won't bore you with the same 'these are unprecedented times' spiel, but we can all agree 2021 was tough. Taking some time to just create whatever we wanted to create helped us, well, find some refuge.

DJ branches out into music world with new EP

by Molly Szymanski
Students walking in and out of the South Campus Dining Hall on Friday nights hear experimental music pouring out to the courtyard, but it’s not coming from the speakers at the dining hall or a busker outside.

The hip-hop beats are coming from the WMUC Radio live music room— and from artist hiddenjekyll, better known on campus as sophomore biology major and music and culture minor Aidan Appelson.
