WMUC OPEN HOUSE - Sept 17 and 18 at 7:00 pm

Now that your schedule's shaken out, it's time to GET INVOLVED!

University of Maryland's own student-run freeform FM radio station, WMUC, will be hosting its semesterly Open House this Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm.

Come on down to 3130 South Campus Dining Hall (uh, where?) to find out what REAL COLLEGE RADIO is all about!

We've got opportunities for:

On-Air Talent

Want to get on the air? Of course you do. Now with our new webstream, WMUC2, we have more available airtime than ever... but you've still gotta earn it! We're freeform radio, which means you, the DJ, decide what goes on the air, but you've gotta make it interesting! Come prepared with show ideas - if you had your own weekly gig, what would you do with it? Music, talk, comedy, public affairs, insect noises? (seriously, it's been done) You'll learn about our audition process, how to deal with the burden of radio fame, and what it takes to be a great DJ!

WMUC's Sports department is an entire division of its own within the larger WMUC operation, and offers lots of opportunities for new students to get on the air, whether it's calling games or hosting Sports talk shows. Click over to WMUCSports.com to learn more!

Promotions and Marketing

What? You didn't know know that the University of Maryland has a radio station??? Well, you're not the only one, and we're looking for new and interesting ways to fix that. Help us spread the good word of freeform college radio, and how we're looking to make WMUC a bigger part of student life here in College Park.

Production and Recording

Learn the fine art of recording in our Pro Tools-equipped 24-track studio. Are you a musician who wants to lay down some tracks, or know some and want to help them? The only way you'll learn is by doing it, and you can do just that at WMUC!

We're always (ALWAYS!) looking for tech help at WMUC, so if you've got a technical mind and want to learn about what makes an FM broadcast station tick, you've got a chance to do so right here on campus. As an added bonus, we can guarantee that you'll be instantly popular here!

One student group, many ways to get involved! Come check us out!

Club Queen K-Swift Dead at 27

This morning, 92Q DJ and First Lady of Baltimore Club K-Swift passed away, leaving countless fans and lovers of club music in shock.

Truly a figurehead in the club music scene, K-Swift was also a pioneer in general for the female DJ, and a very successful one, at that.

Tomorrow night on Stands for Decibels I will be doing a tribute to the Club Queen, playing my favorite Bmore Club (and offshoot) tracks and taking any callers who wish to give their condolences.

DNA TEST FEST @ WMUC Friday + Saturday 7/25+26

Dude do you remember the first time you heard that frogs record it's
only right and natural? That was good times. Or when you bought the
3rd and 4th cro-mags lp, and it was the worst ever? So that's kinda
what this will be like. DNA in the DNA has been on for pretty much a
year. To party it up we're gonna have some of the harshest outsider
punk noise art etc you can think of. If we can't get that then we can
get bands that still think ESG is the best band of all time. Come one
come all bring your cheers dvd box sets and let loose its time to do
it to it.
