Inhaler: Open Wide, Album Cover

This past Friday night, Irish-rock band Inhaler returned to D.C. performing to a sold-out audience at The Anthem. Since releasing their third album “Open Wide” on February 7, 2025, the band has climbed upward in the alternative rock scene. Inspired by bands like The Strokes and New Order, their energetic and pop-soaked sound is addicting. Their catchy melodies juxtaposed with their confessional and often-times romantic lyrics create catchy tunes that audiences simply cannot get enough of.

The night started strong with the New York band Been Stellar opening up. Their impressive set left multiple audience members stating how much they enjoyed their performance. In my experience with Inhaler shows, it is apparent that they know how to pick an opening act, and Been Stellar is no exception. The band’s indie-punk, shoegaze sound perfectly introduced Inhaler’s set by subtly contrasting Inhaler’s lighter sound.

The Dublin-based band did not come to play as they expertly crafted their setlist, balancing old favorites with the new hits of their recently released album. While some of my favorites were left off the setlist, they curated an exceptional show combining themes from their albums into one cohesive performance. It is often said that the more content a band has the more difficult it is to please their audience, but Inhaler undoubtedly knows their audience and how to please them. They compiled all their fan favorites while also incorporating new hits.

It was a night to remember as this concert exuded a top-notch atmosphere and energy. From the show’s beginning, audience energy was high with everyone dancing and singing along. Not a body was still at this sold-out venue. The energy only intensified as lead singer Elijah Hewson and bassist Robert Keating called out to the crowd encouraging their dancing and interaction with the band. Naturally, the audience complied and at one point Hewson even sported a “Cheer Up Baby” leather jacket an audience member threw onto the stage. Furthermore, the band stated numerous times that D.C. was their favorite stop on the tour thus far. This demonstrates the irreplaceability of the energy that night, an experience that only Inhaler can enable.

The night ended with a three-song encore, absorbing the audience. They finished off with single releases “Your House” and “Open Wide” off of their most recent album after playing their token song “It Won’t Always Be Like This.” Inhaler consistently impresses with their polished performances and audience engagement, and this show was nothing short of excellent. Once again, Inhaler proved that they are charisma experts, wowing D.C.
