Grammy-nominated alternative act K.Flay will take the stage of the 9:30 club next week on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. after the release of her new album Inside Voices / Outside Voices. The LP dropped on Feb. 4 featuring rock legends Travis Barker and Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine––the intro track “Four Letter Words” has already garnered over 4 million streams. Her most popular song “High Enough” rocketed K.Flay to fame in 2017.
K.Flay, real name Kristine Flaherty, first started songwriting in college at Stanford University where she self-produced a collection of mixtapes. However, it wasn’t until her major-label debut Every Where Is Some Where where her career accelerated in live performances alongside widely known pop rock band Imagine Dragons. She has collaborated with the biggest names in a vast array of genres, including Louis The Child, grandson and Danny Brown.
Her sound somehow spans several genres while simultaneously remaining instantly recognizable. She blends elements of rock, pop and hip-hop to instrumentally explore both introspective and societally conscious lyrics. Her vocals are one of a kind, layered with filters that match her often distorted backing tracks. Gritty and rebellious, K.Flay’s exuberant energy can be felt through every word and every chord. Guitars and bass drive a majority of her discography while her voice plays with memorable melodies.
For this show, K.Flay will perform alongside supporting acts G Flip and corook. Australian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist G Flip first worked as a touring drummer, which inspired her dreamy pop music and her tendency for prominent percussion. Though corook is a relatively fresh face in the music industry, this similarly multi-talented artist brings inventive, idiosyncratic sounds to the pop genre. All three of these artists create explosive, in-your-face songs bound to wow when performed live. Grab tickets here, shows are selling out quickly. This show will be my first time seeing K.Flay live and the date can’t come soon enough — I know it’ll be one to remember.
