By: Ella Werdell
Up-and-coming folk-pop duo The Army, The Navy are coming to Washington D.C.’s intimate venue, The Atlantis, on March 24, 2025. Following their debut and sophomore EP’s release in 2024, Maia Ciambriello and Sasha Goldberg are headlining their tour for the first time. Last September, the band opened for indie-pop artist Dora Jar on her “Behind the Curtain Tour,” and are now supported by Aggie Miller for their “Gentle Hellraiser” Tour. Known for their impressive harmonies and musical chemistry, they will certainly put on an excellent performance.
The duo’s first project, “Fruit for Flies”, released on March 8, 2024, is a short and sweet 22-minute story that reflects the duo’s shared experiences and tales of friendship. This EP has heavy influences of jazz, pop, folk, and indie rock with Adrienne Lenker and Helana Deland being cited as prominent inspirations. Their tightly-written, introspective lyrics coupled with impressive vocal chemistry leave audiences wanting more after such a brief debut. A few months later on December 6, 2024, the duo released the sister project of “Fruit for Flies” titled “Sugar for Bugs”. This is another 22-minute compilation of songs highlighting their beautiful writing style and enchanting vocals. Similar to their first project, it is a folk-inspired indie pop experiment that creates an engaging atmosphere and sound.
The critter themes and visuals this duo provides with their music are inspired by the natural sounds they grew up surrounded by. Before becoming The Army, The Navy, Ciambriello and Goldberg were childhood friends who shared the same singing coach in California. Later they both studied music at Loyola University in New Orleans where they were roommates and best friends. The duo has creative cohesion and musical chemistry, enabling their amazing harmonies and eloquent lyrics. Their friendship continues to thrive and grow as they journey through their musical career as The Army, The Navy.
Marking the seventh show of their “Gentle Hellraiser” Tour, The Army, The Navy will surely impress D.C. Their crisp vocals and contemplative lyrics paired with their unique visuals set the tone for a captivating, highly-anticipated show. Along with this, their long friendship is apparent and enrapturing to watch on stage. Get excited D.C., it will be an amazing show!
