For the first time in two years, podcast Welcome to Night Vale brings its show to listeners across the world with the Haunting of Night Vale, starting in The Lincoln Theatre in D.C.
The almost 2-hour show featured all of the delightful spectacles and more than what the pre-recorded podcast promises listeners. From the daily horoscope, to Cecil Palmer’s love life, to the weather, the entire show was entertaining from beginning to end.
Not only were fans in the packed theater able to really feel as a part of the desert town of Night Vale community with these in-person and live updates, but actors on stage made sure to include and interact with the audience through cheers and boos.
The show included fan-favorite characters, like Michelle Nguyen, Tamika Flynn, Harrison Kip and more. Additionally, actors showed out with unique esoteric outfits of full plaid or cat ears that made the entire show even more exciting.
In addition to the normal podcast antics, the entire performance began with music and spoken-word by singer-songwriter Erin McKeown. Despite being only one person, McKeown filled the hall with her tunes. Additionally, the show also had live music from composer and producer Disparition. The addition of the spooky songs under Palmer’s monologues made the entire experience even more exciting.
All of the performers on stage seemed thankful and happy to be in front of a live audience again, and it seemed like the audience felt the exact same way to be there as well. The Haunting of Night Vale promised the same things the regular podcast does, giving everyone a real-life taste of the scary, the silly and the wholesome.
