The Governors Ball at Citi Field in New York City is just three days away and we’re here to break down who you should keep your eyes out for while you're planning your weekend.
Friday is jam-packed with great musicians, starting with Blu DeTiger showing off her skills on the bass with hits like “Vintage” and “Figure It Out.” DeTiger is one of the smaller bands so you know you can get up close. Later in the day, there will be performances from Jack Harlow, Louis The Child, and Kid Cudi, a list that would interest most any music lover.
Harlow, best known for his hit with Lil Nas X, “INDUSTRY BABY,” recently dropped his newest album, Come Home The Kids Miss You, and will certainly bring a crowd. EDM duo Louis The Child will be performing on the Gopuff stage right after Quinn XCII. Louis The Child fans will know that the duo has worked with Quinn XCII on multiple songs including their hit “Little Things.” This schedule only leaves fans to hope for a collaborative performance on Friday night. At the end of the day, Kid Cudi will perform on the main stage. Cudi needs no introduction and is known for countless hits including “Pursuit Of Happiness,” “Day ‘N’ Nite,” and “THE SCOTTS.” Cudi will certainly be a great way to close out Friday night.
Saturday afternoon has quite the lineup on the Bacardi stage alone. First we have Tom Odell who we had the pleasure of covering earlier this year.Right after, Gus Dapperton is performing on the same stage, followed by Diesel, Shaquille O'Neal’s stage name. Many don’t know about the NBA star's music career, but his live performances are hard to forget as he frequently joins his own moshpit. With that wild lineup at the Bacardi stage, you won’t want to miss some of the other great performances. Still Woozy, who just came off a completely sold out tour, will be performing his debut album If This Isn’t Nice, I Don’t Know What Is, on the main stage. That evening Joji will also take the stage. Known for his song “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” and comedic alter ego by the name Pink Guy, Joji is certain to not disappoint. As nighttime falls, we’re excited to see Flume, who just dropped his newest album Palaces. Flume has been on the top of Shaun’s Spotify Wrapped for years and is the highlight of his personal Gov Ball line up. In the middle of her tour supporting her most recent (and Grammy-nominated) album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, Halsey is the second headliner for the festival. We’re looking forward to seeing her perform radio hits like “Without Me,” as well as other popular songs like “You Should Be Sad” and “Hurricane.”
After a packed weekend, Sunday we're gonna keep it short and sweet, with three great artists: COIN, Glass Animals, and J. Cole. COIN recently dropped their newest album, Uncanny Valley and are still on tour for the album. They bring a fun vibe with their songs like “Talk Too Much” and “Cemetery.” Glass Animals is a WMUC fan favorite. Ever since their album Dreamland, Glass Animals have topped the charts with songs like “Heat Waves” and “Tokyo Drifting (ft. Denzel Curry).” Denzel Curry will be at Gov Ball on Saturday as well, leaving room for another possible collaborative performance.
All good things have to come to an end and the Governors Ball is no exception. American rapper J. Cole will be closing the festival on Sunday night. Cole has had an outstanding career ever since his work with Jay-Z with his emotional hits such as “No Role Modelz.”
With three stages and performances happening for 10 hours all three days, it can be hard to pick out which show to attend. Hopefully our list will help you plan your weekend. You can check out the Governors Ball schedule here and let us know who you're looking forward to seeing.
